+++++++ OPENING SYMPOSIUM ON TRUST (RE-)BUILDING IN FINANCE ++++++++
As part of the official FINT2019 opening ceremony, we are holding a symposium entitled "BUILDING AND REBUILDING TRUST IN FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS: PREPARING THE INDUSTRY FOR THE FUTURE", in which renowned international researchers such as Prof. Dr. Antoinette Weibel (HSG), Prof. Dr. Nicole Gillespie (University of Queensland, AUS) and Dr. Gareth Owen (Warwick Business School, UK) will contribute with disticnt perspectives on trust (re-) building from their scientific work. In addition, the symposium will be enriched by proven experts from practice - for example, we were able to win Gabe Shawn Varges, a proven Compliance & Ethics expert and former Head of Governance at FINMA (Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority), and high-level representatives from the Swiss banking industry, such as Felix Wenger from Raiffeisen for our symposium. Afterwards, there will be the opportunity to further deepen the topics and contents at an Apéro Riche.

FINT is celebrating as we organize the 10th FINT Workshop on ‘Trust Within and Between Organizations’ in January 2019! In 2001, the first workshop was organized in Amsterdam by our founding member Katinka Bijlsma and, ever since, trust research and the workshop have been growing strongly. To celebrate this great research output of the trust community and to feature more of those exciting discussions on where trust is heading, we now organize this 10th workshop in the Swiss mountains. Surely, trust as a topic could not be more relevant in times when global leadership and many organizations face trust repair and distrust issues in abundance. This creates a window of opportunity where trust research can bridge the practice gap we so often face as academics.
Yves Daccord is Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva, a post he has held since 2010.
Roberto Weber is Professor of Economics at the University of Zurich since 2011.
Nicholas J. Wheeler is Professor of International Relations and Director of the Institute for Conflict, Cooperation, and Security at the University of Birmingham.
To make this happen, the 10th FINT workshop on “Trust Within and Between Organizations” is seeking submissions. Trust is a concept and shared human experience that crosses disciplinary, cultural, and generational boundaries. It lies at the heart of all human relationships whether with another individual, a group, or an institution. Trust is a key factor in our conceptions of society and civilization, and is essential in enabling and enhancing cooperation, sharing of information, problem solving, fostering commitment and job satisfaction as well as generating a range of individual, group, organizational, and societal performance outcomes. The changing nature of the current social and political environments within which we exist as individuals and as members of groups, highlights the importance of trust to success and simultaneously, the challenges to its continued existence within relationships and institutions.

This FINT workshop seeks to provide a forum in which we further develop our trust knowledge within an inspiring community. We welcome both junior and senior contributor representatives of the academic and practitioner communities from a wide range of academic disciplines, using qualitative and quantitative methods, with empirical and theoretical insights to offer. Hence our call for papers is deliberately broad. We are open to all research questions pertaining to current trust research and invite the submission of proposals for symposia, thematic panels, interactive workshops, and other innovative sessions, in addition to individual papers (see below for the specific requirements).
